Another way to use Avatars is in the "inpaint editor" mode.
Click on one of the images you already generated, and check for the "Fix problem with AI" button on the panel on the left:
You then access the Inpaint Editor module, allowing you to fix and change your initial creation. (see also Face Fix for example)
In this situation, Avatar will mostly be used as reference image to faceswap your Avatar on an character in the image.
Start by using the brush to select the zone you want to change.
Then go to the Face Swap section and click on "Avatar"
You will be presented with the list of available Avatars. Select the one you want to use.
Another panel opens: these are the reference images behind the Avatar (see also Dreambooth & Consistency), select the one you want to use for this specific faceswap: try to find the one with a similar angle than the character on the initial picture and/or select an emotion you would like to get.
Your Avatar will then appear in the Inpaint Editor panel:
Do not forget to play with the strength level to adapt the constraints you want to put on the algorithm (see also AI Creativity & Hallucinations)
Click on the "Inpaint 2 Images" button. The algorithm will make 2 different proposals that you can compare with the original image.
Here is a Proposal after the faceswap:
